Barn Conversion: Radwinter, Essex

Fallon Builders are pleased to be one of the most trusted contractors for residential conversions in Essex. We pride ourselves on approaching every job as its own challenge, and bringing our touch of professionalism to everything from high-end offices for global businesses, to home improvement projects for families to enjoy.

RESIDENTIAL CASE STUDY

This barn conversion in Essex was an example of the latter. The team headed to the village of Radwinter – a tiny, picturesque place, with a population of less than a thousand – as we’d been tasked with giving a client’s barn a new lease of life. Read on to find out more about how we converted this barn to a perfect space for living and relaxing – and check out the gallery for photos of the finished product.

The Job

‍For this modern barn conversion, we constructed a concrete and steel frame to ensure the structure would be hardy and securely standing for generations to come. An interesting spin we added to this particular job is something you can see in the images, but may not be obvious at first glance – the concrete hardie board that makes up the feathered-edge exterior of the converted barn. Not only is this tough and weatherproof, it’ll also never need painting, giving our clients one less chore to do in the future.

Inside, our priority as requested by the client was making the steel frame barn conversion a good living space. It’s now a three-bed, three-bath space with plenty of room for guests and family alike, and we fully fitted out all the rooms with fixtures and facilities, as you can see in the imagery. An extra touch we were also pleased with was the mezzanine floor. It’s not something everyone thinks of with these kinds of conversions, but it can be a fantastic way to maximise the amount of space and storage you have available.

With skylights in the roof and full-size, all-glass doors, the barn conversion interior would receive plenty of natural light. On the outside meanwhile, a patio with a built-in seating area helped to maximise the amount of space our clients had available to enjoy their barn conversion.‍

The Result‍

We were thrilled to be able to finish this extensive barn conversion for our clients in Radwinter. Now, they would have an additional space to enjoy throughout the year, from lazy summer evenings on the patio to cosy winter nights indoors. Check out the gallery below to see more of the finished conversion.
